Successful Go-Live of the Fully Integrated Patient Portal at KKRN – A New Benchmark for Interoperability in German Hospitals

Founda Health is proud to announce a major milestone: Katholisches Klinikum Ruhrgebiet Nord (KKRN), together with Founda, LOGEX, Imilia, and Pansoma, has successfully launched a KHZG-funded patient portal with an integrated interoperability platform.

This project has brought into operation a single, standards-based digital access point for patients, uniting multiple systems in one place - a true game-changer for interoperability in everyday hospital practice.

This is what modern interoperability looks like in practice:

• Structured Data Exchange:
  An IHE XDS-based Affinity Domain enables cross-system, structured communication between patients, physicians, and nursing staff.

• Unique Patient Identity:
  Thanks to the Master Patient Index (MPI) implemented by Pansoma, patient identities are reliably resolved across all systems and facilities of KKRN.

• Intuitive Patient Portal & Appointment Booking:
  Patients can self-register, book department appointments online, and provide documents in advance.

• Care Pathways & Preparation:
  Depending on the type of appointment, the portal provides tailored care pathways – including questionnaires, checklists, and information in various media formats. This ensures patients arrive well-prepared for their appointments.

• Efficient Processes:
  Instead of searching for information manually, hospital staff now have all relevant data available before the appointment and can prepare accordingly. Documents flow bidirectionally and seamlessly into the system via the interoperability platform – without delays, without dependency on individuals, and always available. The result: more time for what really matters – providing the best possible care for patients.

• Full Transparency:
  Patients now see both inpatient and outpatient appointments at a glance and can securely upload and retrieve medical documents.
• Seamless Integration:
  Single Sign-On (SSO) connects the Founda Viewer directly with the LOGEX Professional Application – building a bridge between patient-facing and clinical applications.

Behind the scenes, the Founda Data & Image Availability Platform ensures all systems work seamlessly together. Instead of complex point-to-point interfaces, a vendor-neutral interoperability layer is in place. Erfolgreicher Go-Live des voll integrierten Patientenportals am KKRN – ein neuer Maßstab für Interoperabilität in deutschen Krankenhäusern

Founda Health ist stolz auf einen großen Meilenstein: Das Katholische Klinikum Ruhrgebiet Nord (KKRN) hat gemeinsam mit Founda, LOGEX, Imilia und Pansoma ein durch das KHZG gefördertes Patientenportal samt Interoperabilitätsplattform erfolgreich live geschaltet.

Damit wurde ein Projekt umgesetzt und in Betrieb genommen, das verschiedene Systeme in einem einzigen, standardbasierten digitalen Zugang für Patient:innen vereint – ein echter „Gamechanger“ für Interoperabilität im Krankenhausalltag.

So sieht moderne Interoperabilität in der Praxis aus:

• Strukturierter Datenaustausch: Ein auf IHE XDS basierende Affinity Domain ermöglicht die übergreifende, strukturierte Kommunikation zwischen Patient:innen, Ärzt:innen und Pflege.

• Eindeutige Patientenidentität: Dank des von Pansoma implementierten Master Patient Index (MPI) werden Identitäten sicher und zuverlässig über alle Systeme und Einrichtungen der KKRN hinweg aufgelöst.

• Intuitives Patientenportal & Terminbuchung: Über das Portal können Patient:innen sich selbst registrieren, Fachabteilungstermine direkt online buchen und Dokumente vorab zur Verfügung stellen.
• Versorgungspfade & Vorbereitung: Passend zur gebuchten Terminart stellt das Portal den Patient:innen versorgungsspezifische Pfade bereit – inklusive Fragebögen, Checklisten und Informationen in unterschiedlichen Medienformaten. So erscheinen Patient:innen bestens vorbereitet zu ihrem Termin.

• Effiziente Prozesse: Statt Informationen mühsam zusammenzusuchen, haben Klinikmitarbeitende nun alle relevanten Daten bereits vor dem Termin zur Hand – und können sich gezielt vorbereiten. Die Dokumente fließen über die Interoperabilitätsplattform bidirektional, medienbruchfrei und jederzeit verfügbar ins System. Keine Wartezeiten, keine Abhängigkeit von einzelnen Personen – dafür mehr Zeit für das Wesentliche: die bestmögliche Versorgung der Patient:innen

• Volle Transparenz: Patient:innen sehen nun stationäre und ambulante Termine auf einen Blick und können medizinische Dokumente sicher hochladen und abrufen.

• Nahtlose Integration: Single Sign-On (SSO) verbindet den Founda Viewer direkt mit der LOGEX Professional Application – und schafft damit eine Brücke zwischen patienten- und klinikseitigen Anwendungen.
  

Das Herzstück: Founda als Interoperabilitäts-Layer

Im Hintergrund sorgt die Founda Data & Image Availability Plattform dafür, dass all diese Systeme ineinandergreifen – anstelle komplexer Punkt-zu-Punkt-Schnittstellen tritt eine herstellerneutrale Interoperabilitätsschicht. Das bedeutet: weniger Komplexität, mehr Skalierbarkeit und die perfekte Grundlage für zukünftige digitale Services.
