Amsterdam, 28 januari 2026 - Amsterdam UMC is live gegaan met de Founda Mitz Connector, waarmee het mogelijk is om patiënttoestemmingen te controleren als onderdeel van XDS-gebaseerde beschikbaarheid van medische beelden en andere medische patientgegevens in Nederland. Founda Mitz Connector is gezamenlijk ontwikkeld. Hiermee wordt de volgende stap gezet richting een centraal geregelde toestemming voor het delen van medische patiëntgegevens, en lopen we vooruit op de Europese normen voor het delen van medische gegevens Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van de bestaande Founda-infrastructuur bij Amsterdam UMC, die data- en beeldbeschikbaarheid mogelijk maakt.
Mitz is het nationale toestemmingsregister voor patiënten in Nederland. Hiermee kunnen patiënten en zorgverleners op een gestandaardiseerde manier toestemming voor het delen van medische gegevens registreren, beheren en controleren. Het gebruik van Mitz is een essentieel onderdeel van veilige uitwisseling van zorgdata.
Door Mitz direct te integreren in de uitwissellaag, in plaats van in individuele systemen, laat deze implementatie een schaalbare aanpak zien voor de Nederlandse zorgmarkt. Ziekenhuizen kunnen zo voldoen aan nationale eisen rondom toestemming, zonder bestaande infrastructuren te hoeven herontwerpen of zorgprocessen te verstoren. Een belangrijke stap nu gegevensuitwisseling steeds vaker organisatie-, regio- en netwerkoverstijgend plaatsvindt.
“Met de toenemende schaal van gegevensuitwisseling in de zorg is het essentieel dat patiënttoestemming consequent en volgens nationale standaarden wordt afgehandeld,” zegt Menno Regeling van Amsterdam UMC. “Door de Founda Mitz Connector te integreren in de uitwisselinfrastructuur van Founda bij Amsterdam UMC, maken we conforme gegevensdeling mogelijk zonder extra complexiteit toe te voegen aan klinische of operationele processen.” Ook wordt dubbele diagnostiek voorkomen.
“Deze livegang laat zien dat het adopteren van Mitz niet hoeft te betekenen dat IT-landschappen in de zorg opnieuw moeten worden ontworpen,” aldus Andries Hamster van Founda Health. “Door onze bestaande toestemmingsvalidatie uit te breiden met Mitz, kunnen ziekenhuizen voldoen aan nationale eisen en tegelijkertijd verder bouwen aan een modulaire, standaardgebaseerde infrastructuur die interoperabiliteit, continuïteit van zorg en toekomstbestendigheid ondersteunt.”

Amsterdam UMC goes live with the Founda Mitz Connector to support national patient consent
Amsterdam, 28 January 2026 - Amsterdam UMC has gone live with the Founda Mitz Connector, which makes it possible to check patient consent as part of XDS-based availability of medical images and other medical patient data in the Netherlands. Founda Mitz Connector was developed jointly. This is the next step toward centrally managed consent for sharing medical patient data, and we are ahead of European standards for sharing medical data. The existing Founda infrastructure at Amsterdam UMC is used, which enables data and image availability.
Mitz is the national consent registry for patients in the Netherlands. It allows patients and healthcare providers to register, manage, and control consent for the sharing of medical data in a standardized manner. The use of Mitz is an essential part of the secure exchange of healthcare data.
By integrating Mitz directly into the exchange layer, rather than into individual systems, this implementation demonstrates a scalable approach for the Dutch healthcare market. Hospitals can thus comply with national consent requirements without having to redesign existing infrastructures or disrupt healthcare processes. This is an important step now that data exchange is increasingly taking place across organizations, regions, and networks.
“With the increasing scale of data exchange in healthcare, it is essential that patient consent is handled consistently and in accordance with national standards,” says Menno Regeling of Amsterdam UMC. “By integrating the Founda Mitz Connector into Founda's exchange infrastructure at Amsterdam UMC, we enable compliant data sharing without adding extra complexity to clinical or operational processes.” It also prevents duplicate diagnostics.
“This launch shows that adopting Mitz does not necessarily mean that IT landscapes in healthcare need to be redesigned,” says Andries Hamster of Founda Health. “By extending our existing consent validation with Mitz, hospitals can comply with national requirements while continuing to build a modular, standards-based infrastructure that supports interoperability, continuity of care, and future-proofing.”
The Founda Mitz Connector is vendor-neutral by design and applies consistent consent enforcement across multi-vendor XDS environments, including document and image exchange. It is part of the Founda Platform, which supports standards-based, future-ready healthcare data exchange across regional and national networks.
