Realization of National Timeline for Image Availability moves one step closer through formal collaboration

Making patient images available nationally, across regions, vendors, and infrastructures, is a critical next step for Dutch healthcare. Today’s announcement marks tangible progress toward that goal. Building on proven standards and existing exchange networks, the collaboration focuses on translating feasibility into practice and ensuring that national image availability can be realized without disrupting what already works in hospitals today.

UTRECHT, January 6, 2026 – Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, Founda Health, Enovation, VZVZ, and Alphatron are officially collaborating to put the results of the “DUO Proof of Concept” into practice. This step brings the long-awaited National Timeline for Image Availability closer to reality.

The National Timeline is an essential tool for Dutch healthcare. It functions as a nationwide network that allows healthcare providers to directly request diagnostic imaging examinations of patients they are treating. The realization of this network has been a top priority for the Dutch Society for Radiology (NvvR) for quite some time.

From feasibility to practice

In 2025, Founda Health, Enovation, and Alphatron, at the request of the Digital Transition Organization (DTO), demonstrated that such a timeline is technically feasible. By linking their infrastructures based on the “DUO Feasibility Study” and international standards, the foundation was laid. In the subsequent Proof of Concept (PoC), this link was refined, with strict attention to Dutch legislation and regulations for consent and localization via Mitz.

Nationwide rollout in 2026

The partners have committed to a common goal: to fully roll out the National Timeline in 2026. Healthcare institutions will receive active support, both technical and financial, to prepare their current systems for connection to the network.

In the coming months, suppliers will be working on operationalizing the DUO link within their existing infrastructures. Healthcare institutions that want to start using the National Timeline can contact their own supplier or VZVZ for more information.

Realisatie Landelijke Tijdlijn voor Beeldbeschikbaarheid stap dichterbij door formele samenwerking

UTRECHT, 6 januari 2026 – Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, Founda Health, Enovation, VZVZ en Alphatron gaan officieel samenwerken om de resultaten van de ‘DUO Proof of Concept’ naar de praktijk te brengen. Met deze stap wordt de langverwachte Landelijke Tijdlijn voor Beeldbeschikbaarheid werkelijkheid.

De ‘Landelijke Tijdlijn’ is een essentieel instrument voor de Nederlandse zorg. Het fungeert als een landelijk dekkend netwerk waarmee zorgverleners direct diagnostische beeldonderzoeken kunnen opvragen van patiënten die zij in behandeling hebben. De realisatie van dit netwerk is al geruime tijd een topprioriteit voor de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Radiologie (NVvR).

Van haalbaarheid naar praktijk

In 2025 toonden Founda Health, Enovation en Alphatron — op verzoek van het Digitaal Transitie Orgaan (DTO) — aan dat een dergelijke tijdlijn technisch mogelijk is. Door hun infrastructuren te koppelen op basis van het ‘DUO Haalbaarheidsonderzoek’ en internationale standaarden, werd het fundament gelegd. In de daaropvolgende Proof of Concept (PoC) is deze koppeling verfijnd, waarbij strikt is gekeken naar Nederlandse wet- en regelgeving voor toestemming en lokalisatie via Mitz.

De succesvolle afronding van deze PoC in december 2025 vormt de basis voor de huidige samenwerkingsovereenkomst.

Landelijke uitrol in 2026

De partners hebben zich gecommitteerd aan een gezamenlijk doel: de Landelijke Tijdlijn in 2026 volledig uitrollen. Zorginstellingen worden hierbij actief ondersteund — zowel technisch als financieel — om hun huidige systemen gereed te maken voor aansluiting op het netwerk.

In de komende maanden werken de leveranciers aan het operationaliseren van de ‘DUO-koppeling’ binnen hun bestaande infrastructuren. Zorginstellingen die aan de slag willen met de Landelijke Tijdlijn kunnen voor meer informatie terecht bij hun eigen leverancier of bij VZVZ.
